The “Leadership Essentials for Supervisors Series” will explore the complexity of leadership in the 21st. century.  Students will be challenged to contrast and compare “conventional thinking” with “new generational thinking” and their relationship to the leadership competencies and practices necessary to lead people and teams in these dynamic times.  There are five two-day modules in the series, (8 hours per day.)  The series will utilize presentations, class discussion, practical exercises, case studies and psychometrics to accomplish the program outcomes.

Students should make every attempt to attend all modules in the series to get the full benefit of the class.

Module 9

Day 1

Generational Challenges

Utilizing a meta-theory approach and drawing upon the thinking and experiences of some of the great contributors in the field of demographics the “Multi Generational Workforce Challenge” will be explored.   The following will be discussed: Generational Descriptions, Historical Perspectives, New Attitudes, Leading the Multigenerational Workforce and New Leadership Rules.  (8 hours)

 Day 2

Leaders and Staff – The Adversarial Relationship

There is a reluctance to acknowledge that the relationship between a leader and their staff is inherently adversarial.  This section will explore how the agenda of the leader and staff often conflicts and how the leader can work to overcome the adverse impact in order to accomplish the mission. (3 hours)

 Outcomes Through Excellence

The principle of excellence stresses that everything a leader says, every thought they entertain and everything they do takes the closer to or further from the desired outcome.  This section will review role and actions necessary in order to obtain outcomes through excellence. (2 hours)

 Socializing the Mission

Organizations at this time are plagued with failures of leadership.  This section will help leaders who hope to make a difference understand how to create a healthy and sustainable organization.  These leaders must work tirelessly toward the concept of developing and socializing the mission or purpose of the organization. (3 hours)
