In-Service Training Calendar

 In-Service Classes are 0700-1530 hrs unless otherwise noted.

For law enforcement personnel designated as or desiring to teach firearms. Course equips experienced law enforcement personnel to conduct firearms training. Each attending student must have a minimum of two years experience with a criminal justice agency; completed an instructor development course, and pre-qualified on a state mandated departmental "Modified Double Action Course or Virginia Tactical Qualification Course", with a minimum passing score of 90%. EACH STUDENT MUST PRESENT PROOF OF PROFICIENCY before firing a qualification course Monday morning. For the remainder of the course students will be required to maintain a 90% proficiency in all state mandated courses fired. Students who fail to fire with 90% proficiency, will be returned to their agency. Personnel are required to bring their agency firearms, (handgun and shotgun) as well as the following ammunition, dependent on the firearm carried: 1000 Rounds for Handgun and 45 Rounds for Shotgun.

The course covers firearms and range safety, target analysis, ballistics, ammunition, the semi-automatic pistol, range activities, care and maintenance, the revolver (as back-up weapon), officer survival, practical exercises, the shotgun, and practical and written evaluations.
