Social media is a core component of community policing in today's society.  Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, are helping officers and deputies prevent and solve crime and better engage with community members. Unfortunately, the use of social media has also had a negative impact on officers' careers, safety, and cases.  Hosted by the IACP's Center for Social Media, a partnership with BJA, this session will address the benefits and challenges of this technology and what officers and deputies need to know about policing in the age of social media, with a focus on personal safety considerations. This workshop will include an overview of the Center's no-cost resources and services to help demystify and navigate the world of social media.
