About the course

An agency is only as effective and professional as the people it hires. To maintain proficiency, both jail line deputies and supervisors must bring out the best in themselves and their colleagues. This class will
explore such topics as hiring the best applicants, traits of both good and bad jail officers, ethics, maintaining high morale, dealing with ‘rogue’ officers, good supervision of inmates, avoiding liability, and emphasizing to the need for good, ongoing training. Mentors and the ‘steady staff’ are important-and will also be discussed.
