About the course
This intensive two-day boot camp is designed to transform participants into clear, confident, and effective communicators under pressure. Led by Jonathan Elias—a 36-year broadcast journalism veteran and longtime instructor at the U.S. Army War College—this program emphasizes real-world application, accountability, and measurable improvement.
Participants will gain a deep understanding that communication is not optional—it is mission-critical. Through hands-on exercises, on-camera performance, and direct critique, each attendee will leave with practical tools to communicate with clarity, authority, and purpose in high-stakes environments.
This is a high-engagement, no-passenger environment. Every participant is required to perform, receive feedback, and improve in real time.

Your instructor:
Jonathan Elias is the President of Critical Communications and a nationally recognized expert in high-stakes communication. Over a distinguished 36-year career in broadcast journalism, he became one of the most decorated local reporters in the country, earning three prestigious Peabody Awards, a Dupont Award, a National Emmy, and 36 Regional Emmy Awards.
Elias worked in some of the largest and most competitive television markets in the nation, including Boston, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and Phoenix. His career placed him at the center of some of the most significant events in recent history. He reported on the Los Angeles riots, the Oklahoma City bombing, and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and was the only reporter standing on the finish line during the Boston Marathon bombing—experiences that shaped his deep understanding of communication under pressure.
For nearly two decades, Elias has served as an instructor at the U.S. Army War College, where he teaches senior military leaders the critical connection between communication and effective leadership. His work at the highest levels of command helped refine a direct, results-driven approach to messaging in high-stakes environments.
Building on that experience, Elias founded Critical Communications, bringing his proven methods into the civilian sector. He now works with government contractors, first responders, and leadership teams to elevate how they communicate when it matters most. Notably, through Critical Communications, he served as the orals coach for a CGI team of elite creators and coders, helping them successfully secure a highly competitive contract with the Federal Aviation Administration for the modernization of the NOTAMS system.
His mission is clear and uncompromising: to make good communicators great—and great communicators exceptional.
