Executive Protection for Law Enforcement

Course length

About the course

The Department of Homeland Security, federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies continue to issue bulletins on the increasing threat to elected and other public officials, judges and candidates for office. Law Enforcement agencies throughout the country are increasingly being requested or tasked to provide close protection to a new and growing list of state and local officials at the departments of education, justice, health, and to boards of elections. These new responsibilities are in addition to protecting those who are already at risk due to their religious, economic or social status, or are under threat from a known or unknown person or group.

This also means law enforcement agencies are being requested or tasked to support and work alongside an increasing number of protection details that may be law enforcement or are being provided through the private sector. Having agency representatives that are trained in the methodology of providing Executive Protection can significantly reduce confusion as well as enhance the safety and security to the officers as well as the person or persons under protection.

Officers at the completion of this training course will fully understand the basic philosophy, mission and objectives for a protective service agent and the protective detail. Officers will be able to take part in, and complete, the required threat assessment and mission planning process, understand the threats and risks to their Protectee, and have demonstrated the proper procedures and skills needed to provide a safe and secure environment around the client in accordance with the best practices of all applicable federal and state law enforcement protective service organizations.

Topics of instruction include but are not limited to:
• Threat Assessment and Risk Mitigation
• Advance Work, Site Surveys and Mission Planning
• Foot Movement and Close Protective Techniques
• Introduction To Motorcade Operations
• Special Event Security Management & Emergency Operations

The course will conclude with a Capstone live exercise that will occur both on and off campus. Students will be challenged throughout the week in several exercises to reinforce the training.
