Course length

About the course

Law Enforcement is often asked to protect and work special events in their jurisdictions. This class will focus on some of the lessons learned from the New Orleans, New York and Nice ramming attacks, the Pris and London firearms attacks, and the Manchester Arena Attack, what the attacker did prior to the attack, casing and surveillance of the target, how they ordered, stockpiled, transported materials, rented an apartment nearby and planned these attacks. The class will explore the missed opportunities and how law enforcement can assist in hardening and securing targets in their jurisdictions.
Participants will explore traditional special event security for concert venues, parades, and other types of potential targets in your jurisdiction as well as concepts to secure any special event. Numerous interviews were conducted for this class to bring realistic information and understanding of what happened in New York, Nice, the multiple sites of the Paris attacks, Manchester on May 22, 2017, the recent New Orleans ramming attack, and other attacks on special events and how to protect special events in your jurisdiction. Will look at a number of special venues in Northern Virginia.
