About the course

Location - Loudoun County Firearms Training Center- 41450 Shreve Mill Rd., Leesburg, VA

In this two day instructor class each student will walk through how to navigate running a pistol mounted optic on your handgun. Students will understand the advantages and disadvantages of a red dot, how to negotiate obstacles like water/fog/mud, and build confidence in the use of your optic. If you are a Firearms Instructor looking to build an optics program for your department or new to a red dot, this course will give you the tools and resources to confidently carry.

Topics Covered:
• Use of optic or suppressor height sights
• Advantages and disadvantages of a red dot
• Zeroing procedures
• Overcoming obstacles
• Acceptable sight picture
• Trigger management and (3) trigger pulls
• One handed operations
• Shooting on the move
• Low and no light with a red dot
• Use of cover

Materials Needed:
• 1200 rounds of pistol
• Pistol w/ red dot mounted (does not need to be zeroed)
• Handheld or Weapon Mounted flashlight
• Holster and magazine pouch
• (3) Magazines minimum
• Pen and notepad
• Snacks and water
• Sunscreen | Hat | Weather Gear

Prerequisite: at least one of the following must be met:

-Must have completed at least a Pistol 1 class from a reputable company, OR must be proficient in draws, reloads and malfunctions (*class is fast paced)

Your Instructor: Brandon Wright
From a young age, Brandon has had a passion for the mission and success of law enforcement. He has spent a combined total of 8 years as both a county Police officer and a State Trooper. During his service, he specialized as a Firearms Instructor and SWAT officer. After realizing his talents in these specialized fields, he decided to expand his knowledge and experience leaving law enforcement and working as a Firearms and Tactics Instructor for a private DoD contractor in support of the Global War on Terror. Brandon combined his training and expertise with competitive shooting and has enjoyed an accomplished shooting career. He participated as a member of Team Smith & Wesson’s professional shooting team. Also a standing USPSA Grandmaster and an IDPA Distinguished Master, he has earned multiple national titles as well as over 40 State, Regional, and Sectional first-place finishes. As the Owner and Lead Instructor of Wright Shooting Concepts, he now dedicates his time and expertise to support those in the law enforcement, military, and security communities.
